On June 18th, 2013 at the Lough Erne Summit, the President of the French Republic and the chiefs of State and Government of the G8 Member States adopted an\u00a0Open Data Charter<\/a>\u00a0which marked our collective commitment to\u00a0\u201copen economies, open societies and open governments as the basis of lasting growth and stability<\/em>\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The French Prime Minister just released an\u00a0Action Plan for France<\/a>\u00a0to implement the commitments laid out in the\u00a0G8 Open Data Charter and its technical annex<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Government\u2019s commitment to transparency and Open Data stems from a long republican and democratic tradition in France. Article 15 of the\u00a0Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen<\/a>\u00a0of 26 August 1789 states that \u201cSociety has the right to require of every public agent an account of its administration.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The development of Open Data policy in France, starting in 2011 with the creation of the\u00a0Prime Minister\u2019s taskforce Etalab<\/a>\u00a0(data.gouv.fr<\/a>) for Open Governement Data, marked a resolute commitment to foster innovation, economic growth and government reform in addition to this long-standing commitment to transparency.<\/p>\n

This\u00a0Action Plan for France<\/a>\u00a0summarizes the context of Open Government Policy in our country and presents the main priorities for further development to which the French government is committing:<\/p>\n
